UK. Government Minister starts 'fact finding' tour to decide on future UK drug strategy

Government Minister Jeremy Browne has set off on a worldwide fact-finding mission to understand how the aging UK drugs policy can learn from the experiences of other countries.  The UK has repeatedly ignored various reports and studies which have criticised the current system of 'criminalisation' of drug users.  The new fact finding mission starts in Portugal where drugs were effectively decriminalised 12 years ago, a move which led to a reduction in drug use and drug related crime.

The tour also includes the USA where the national approach has seen cannabis legalised for medical and recreational use in 18 states.  The fact finding mission is due to be completed in 2013, lets hope the UK catch up with the rest of the world.  The full article is herehttps://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2013/may/13/home-office-drug-policies-international
