USA. Cannabis is now widely prescribed in the USA for a variety of medical conditions. In the state of Oregon over 2,200 patients are prescribed it for cancer alone, and 52 of these people are minors (under 16 years old). This week Mykayla Comstock at just 7 years old hit the headlines for being the youngest officially supplied medical marijuana patient, she is given cannabis oil twice a day to help with pain and nausea from Leukaemia, the cannabis also helps restore appetite and give restful sleep. For young people to be prescribed cannabis parental consent is required as well as a doctor’s note.
These days most people accept the medical evidence that cannabis is genuinely medically effective. But is it safe to give to children under medical supervision?
