Uruguayan President Mijuica could be in line for a Nobel prize for legalizing cannabis. It will be an amazing bit of publicity for his courageous decision to legalize cannabis despite international UN treaties which have been designed to keep cannabis illegal. His original decision to legalize pot came despite quite lot of international criticism, but Mujica's rationale has always been that it is better for cannabis to be regulated by the goverment than by organised crime bosses. So far his decision is paying off. The Uruguayan people can have legal jobs in the cannabis industry and the recreational/medical users can get safe access to quality herbs. The only losers have been the criminal gangs that ran the market before the government stepped in.
Mujica's new system see's his government take care of legal cannabis production and distribution. People can then buy their own pot safe in the knowledge that it is the state, not criminals, who are benefitting from the purchase.
