Basque Country. The small independent ‘Basque country’ between Spain and France is following the example of Barcelona and finding that cannabis social clubs are proving to be very popular with its citizens. So far there are 21 cannabis clubs in the capital San Sebastian - also known as Donostia to Basque people. The increasing popularity of cannabis clubs has resulted in the local council agreeing to set up some official plans to control and regulate the expanding market for Basque cannabis clubs. There seems to be two main reasons for the regulation of Basque cannabis clubs
a) The officials want to make sure that the cannabis is free from pesticides and other nasty contaminants. Basque want to follow the successful example of Spain which has established the best european model for the safe production and distribution of cannabis. One result of the ‘social’ club model is to have eliminated criminal involvement in the production, distribution and sale of cannabis.
b) Officials want to make sure that the Basque cannabis clubs operate in a transparent way, with all clubs officially registered and all members being mature adults that want reasonably priced cannabis for medical or recreational use.
This is a step in the right direction for Basque citizens, Dutch Passion wish them every success with the cannabis social club system, we hope other European nations follow their example.
