Catalan Government seek further regulation and protection for Cannabis Social Clubs

A Catalan public bill gathered 54,000 public signatures requesting full, clear regulation of Catalans cannabis social clubs (‘CSC’).  The Catalan region of Northern Spain has seen huge numbers of CSC’s emerge in recent years.  Barcelona alone is thought to have over 200 CSC’s.  The Catalan CSC’s have reduced street dealing dramatically, they sell their cannabis only to registered adult members on a non-profit basis.  Many people prefer this approach, and would like to see further regulation of the CSC’s to raise standards even higher.  The new Catalan CSC bill will include measures to guarantee sanitary and hygiene standards are maintained during cannabis production.
If the Catalan laws are introduced it will reinforce the Catalan region as one of Europe's most progressive regarding cannabis laws.  However some opposition may come from the main Spanish Government which is still not quite as progressive as the Catalan.
