Holland. Tilburg Mayor Opens Coffeeshops To Tourists, Fury From Christian Democrats

Progressive thinking in Tilburg will allow the coffeeshops to serve cannabis to non-residents when two music festivals are taking place over the summer.  Although its illegal for Tillburg coffeeshops to sell cannabis to non-residents, Tilburg Mayor Peter Noordanus decided that its better for the local economy if cannabis is sold to the tourists in local coffee shops.  This view was backed up by Justice Minister Klaas Dijkhoff who is unconcerned by the decision.  Festival  attendees to the summer festivals must show their festival ticket in order to buy their cannabis in Tilburgs coffeeshops.
However not everyone was pleased with the decision.  Christian Democrat MP Madeleine van Toorenburg was furious, saying ‘Can it get any madder?  An organ of government is using a festival ticket as a ‘get out of jail free’ card so people can take drugs.’   Festival organisers applauded the decision to relax the coffeeshops law over the summer.
