UK. Cannabis arrests, cautions and warnings decrease 30% in 4 years

0

Surprising data from the UK have been released showing the most dramatic reduction ever seen in the UK for cannabis arrests, cautions and warnings.  The total number of incidents fell from 145,400 in 2011 to just 101,905 in 2015.  The data shows that UK Police forces have been silently and unofficially 'decriminalising' cannabis by de-prioritizing cannabis incidents.    All UK data indicates that the number of regular cannabis users in the UK remains stable at around 6% of the population, a number which has remained constant over recent years.

Senior UK Police Chiefs have struggled with the combined challenges of budget cuts and headcount cuts, as a result simple cases of cannabis possession are increasingly being ignored.  UK cannabis users will welcome the news, but will also continue pushing for the UK to officially protect UK cannabis users by a change in the law.  More information is here
