UK. Police Chief call for new approach to the lost war on drugs


The Chief of Humberside Police, Tim Hollis, says that current drug strategies are too focussed on the criminal prosecution of users, a strategy which is clearly not working yet costing huge amounts of tax payer money. 

This is the latest call for the UK government to address the drugs policy debate in the UK.  Traditionally each new UK government lacks the political courage to deal with the issue, preferring to dodge the issue and leave it for the next government.  But with so much political momentum elsewhere in the world perhaps 2013 will be the year when the UK starts to face reality.  The full story from the BBC is here.
