UK. Richard Branson in appeal to modernise UK cannabis laws



Billionaire Virgin boss Richard Branson today backed calla for the UK to modernise its ‘failed’ drugs policy.  Branson, a member of the UN Drug Advisory Council,  was supported by Liberal UK Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg.  Both individuals have repeatedly criticised the failure of expensive prohibition which has cost £Billions to enforce and given 1.5 million UK citizens a criminal record which hinders their future employment prospects.  Furthermore, Branson points out that research from the UK Government itself has shown that a highly punitive judicial system is simply not effective.  Branson and Clegg favour a Portuguese style system where criminal sanctions are removed from cannabis users, with rules based on public health rather than public punishment,
