School district 49 in Peyton Colorado has approved the use of cannabis in schools under tightly controlled conditions. Specifically the use of cannabis has to be medical rather than recreational, and it must be an edible or lotion - no smoking or vaping is allowed. Use of recreational cannabis of THC-rich varieties in Colorado schools is still punished with suspension.
The case was brought by the mother of a student with Dravets syndrome, certain types of CBD-rich cannabis have been used successfully in Colorado to treat childhood epilepsy. The new rules were approved unanimously.
