USA. Obama pardons record numbers of unfair drug convictions

President Obama has commuted, or pardoned, 325 non violent drug offenders during August 2016.  Many of these had been sentenced to life imprisonment for a non violent drug charge, meaning that these people would otherwise have died in jail.
So far Obama has pardoned 673 people, more than the previous 9 Presidents managed between them.  All these offenders had been victims of unfair sentencing guidelines which often put petty drug offenders behind bars for decades.  Obama has done his best to rectify some of the legal injustices of the USA court system, and many are hoping that before Obama leaves office he will make permanent changes to the drug laws by federally legalizing cannabis.
